He painted many leading ladies at court, including several of the King's mistresses, before returning to Paris. Any internet search will show virtually identical images and treatment especially in the taking of her lace and draperies etc.
The painting is a comfortable size at 15 1/4 x 20 ins. It was lightly cleaned and relined a few years ago when, at the same time, the period frame was re-backed with new timber. There are minor professional restorations showing under UV and it is now in a fine condition for a work of this period. This plus the work's cabinet size makes it an appealing opportunity.
