This 89 year old first edition book is in excellent condition - clean, square, and solid. The cover boards are bound in blue cloth, with a darker blue title and design embossed on the front cover and on the spine. The binding is tight though the front cover has a slight roll as can be seen in photo 4. There are 206 pages following xii, and none are torn, loose, or missing. The black and white illustrations throughout the book and on the end-papers were done by artist Mary Shepard. There is no dust jacket. There are almost no signs of wear on the front and back covers other than small corner bumps/rubbings. The top and bottom edges of the spine shows light rubbing, and the spine has age-related fading/yellowing. The red-tinted page edges at the top of the book have probably darkened over time. The untinted page edges at the side and bottom have become tanned. There are a few small page stains, shown in the final 11 photos.
There is an inscription on the front loose pictorial end-paper, and the original owner colored in (neatly) one of the images on that page. The book measures 19.5 cm. I have tried to clearly and accurately show all blemishes in the photos, which are considered to be part of the description. This book has been in a smoke-free, pet-free home since 1995.
