Height: Four & One-Half Inches. A Fabeltier is simply a mythical creature, and this entirely whimsical one by Louise Abel looks to be part horse, part dog, part, zebra. It is a seldom-seen Rookwood shape that first appeared in the late 1920s/early 30s that, judging from the extant examples, seems to have enjoyed something of a reintroduction in the late 1940s/early 1950s. This one from 1952 is in excellent, original condition; green, high gloss, uncrazed with no issues that I can identify. On the bottom can be found Rookwoods iconic reverse RP logo under which is found the Roman numeral LII to indicate the production year (1952), the shape number (6243) and an encircled A, Ms. Thank you in advance for considering this outstanding piece of American art pottery.
